3D Printing

So our blender broke last year. The only thing that needed to be replaced was the connector between the motor and the blade. This past summer Anthony drew up the replacement part on Solid Works and printed it off on a 3D printer. We tried it with the blender but the blender sheered off parts of the connector.

Tonight, Anthony reconfigured the printing instructions so that the replacement connector part would no longer be hollow. He tried printing the part with our new 3D printer. This second new replacement part was solid, and it worked when we tried it with our blender!

Unfortunately, the smoothie we made in the blender did not work. We had planned on a banana peach smoothie but the peach was rotten inside. We switched our plan to a banana nut smoothie. The outcome chewed like raspberry walnut vinaigrette, and tasted like banana bread batter- nasty.

Fries

Now fries are another Garland tradition that Anthony introduced to me. I believe this tradition typically included cheese and meat for toppings. My version this evening revolved around a split pea and ham soup inspiration due to the absence of traditional Garland ingredients in our freezer and refrigerator on this cold night.

Engineering 101 With Daddy

This evening Shastya got to observe Daddy assembling a new 3D printer from Baoyan Automation. Daddy continues to work on software for this printer. Mommy worked on some of the editing for the manual. We set the new 3D printer on a table next to our 2D printer.

Futuristic Cookies

Today I tried something new. I made cookies without a recipe. While Anthony and I ate delicious said cookies, we discussed whether heating cookies without an oven via a laser was possible. First, he asked me if I thought it was possible. I replied, "probably, with some adapting. People manage to cook by all sorts of mediums such as ovens, stoves, and camp fires." I asked Anthony if he thought making cookies using a laser to heat them was realistic. He said that 3D printing cookies and somehow heating them with a laser is an idea. Anthony added that lasers might be more efficient than all the wasted heat in the oven. One cookie could be zapped at a time. I added that maybe there could be a sensor screen in the oven, and a grid of lasers. A computer could gather info from the sensor screen such as the number of cookies and their locations and then the lasers could shoot the cookies.

Field Trip

Shastya got to go on her first field trip this afternoon. The field trip was watching Daddy put a spare on our car out in our parking lot. Shastya really enjoyed the fresh air on this fall Saturday morning. She also liked listening to the not too distant sounds of children playing, a puppy barking, and someone hammering away on an indoor fall project. She was a little distracted, and I don't think she will remember how to put a spare tire on a car.

New Technique

Tonight I tried a quicker technique for making dumplings. I rolled out the dough, and then cut out the dumpling rounds with a glass.

Garland Knots

Okay, so my recipe name for Garlic Knots is officially switched to Garland Knots! Anthony claims them. Not only did he request them for dinner after he learned we did not have cheese for pizza, he suggested that we rename them Garland Knots after he ate them with dinner! Did I mention he loves them!
